Based on the familiar colors of the traffic light, foods are categorized as Green Light (Healthy), Yellow Light (Moderately Healthy) or Red Light (Least Healthy). An individualized nutrition plan is created for each patient based on his / her height, weight, age, and gender. The plan outlines how many “colors” a person should eat at each meal and snack (in addition to an unlimited amount of “free foods” like fruits, vegetables, and fat free cheeses) to promote either weight loss or weight maintenance. And the best part of all: each participant gets two Red Light foods to eat each week so there is no deprivation or off-limit foods.
